Cottonwood Expands Capital Markets Team

CW Markets Group, a branch office of Orchard Securities, the capital markets division and wholesale distribution arm of Cottonwood Communities Inc., announced that the company expanded its capital markets team with the addition of two new territories, resulting in two key promotions in the organization and a number of new hires.

Cottonwood has branched out from its four wholesaling territories of Northwest, Southwest, Northeast and Southeast, to a total of six territories with the addition of the Upper Midwest and South-Central territories.

As a result, Cottonwood says Jordon Plapinger and Preston Corman have each been promoted to vice president of capital markets and will focus on external wholesaling in the company’s Upper Midwest and South Central territories.

According to LinkedIn, Plapinger has been with Cottonwood since 2015. Prior to his current position, he was vice president of sales at Walton International for nearly eight years. Before joining Walton, Plapinger was a financial advisor with Pacific Capital Resource Group for nearly five years.

Corman has been with Cottonwood for almost four years, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to his role at Cottonwood, he was an internal sales director with Great-West Financial for nearly a year. Corman was also a vice president of Midwest markets with Triton Pacific Securities for more than a year. Prior to Triton, he was an associate vice president of Steadfast Companies for nearly four years. Before joining Steadfast, Corman was a partner at Corman Brothers for 22 years.

Additionally, Cottonwood announced recent new hires to the team which include:

  • Alex Alexiou, director of capital markets (Southwest)
  • Brooke Heffington, director of capital markets (Southeast)
  • Jessica Tolliday, director of capital markets (Northwest)
  • Will Durant, director of capital markets (Upper Midwest)
  • Alex Metskas, director of capital markets (South Central)

“We are excited about the depth of this team,” said Eric Marlin, executive vice president, capital markets. “We believe that each individual brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be instrumental in helping us expand our broker dealer and registered investment advisor relationships across the country.”

As previously reported by The DI Wire, Trey Killingsworth was hired earlier this year as senior vice president of capital markets.

Cottonwood Communities, as of Dec. 31, 2022, held interests in a portfolio of multifamily apartment communities with a total of 10,100 units, including 8,000 units in multifamily apartment communities in which they have a structured investment interest. The company we had a portfolio of $2.6 billion in total assets.
