David Canter has come onboard as a strategic adviser at CAIS, an alternative investment platform for independent financial advisers. Canter will support the company’s ongoing commitment to the registered independent adviser community.

“We are excited to have David join the CAIS team at a time when independent advisers are adopting CAIS technology as their primary solution to scale alternative investments,” said Matt Brown, CAIS founder and chief executive officer. “David has been a champion of the RIA community for decades; his deep experience and network will have a meaningful contribution to our mission,” continued Brown.

Canter brings more than 20 years of experience serving the independent adviser community, including more than a decade at Fidelity Investments. At Fidelity, Canter led the RIA and family office segments and spearheaded the practice management and consulting practice for Fidelity Institutional. Earlier in his career, David held a senior leadership role at Charles Schwab and currently serves as trustee to Accordant Investments family of mutual funds, a board member of Invest in Others, and a prior board member of the Foundation for Financial Planning.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside CAIS while at Fidelity, and also as a member of the CAIS Advisory Council for the better part of the last decade,” said Canter. “I’m looking forward to working closely with the entire CAIS team as they continue to develop best-in-class technology solutions for the independent adviser community.”

Canter’s appointment follows the announcement of CAIS Live, a nationwide alternative investment education program for independent financial advisers that features one-day events focused on combining CAIS’ best-in-class technology with in-person educational experiences.

According to other reporting, part of Canter’s focus will be on CAIS Solutions, a SaaS platform launched in October 2023. Previously reported by The DI Wire in October 2023, the platform uses CAIS technology to centralize and streamline alternative investment funds, no matter where advisers or home office representatives source funds.
