The REIT Weekly – Cushman & Wakefield Predictions Come True

Recent real estate industry related news features challenges in senior housing health care, IP cameras in the self-storage industry, and further revelations regarding industrial trends. Meanwhile, New York City apartments face their strongest quarter since 2012.

A main component of security measures in the self storage industry is the usage of internet protocol (IP) cameras. Replacing traditional analog, IP cameras offer high quality images along with the convenience of remote log in capabilities. Live video monitoring services consist of video-analytics and events-based monitoring. In addition to greater security benefits, experts believe that these monitoring systems will also help serve for operational purposes.

Despite the increased demand for home health care jobs as predicted by the U.S. Department of Labor, the industry faces ongoing challenges in its growing sector. With an annual turnover rate of 40%-65%, the senior home health care industry continues to battle issues involving low wages, high turnover rates, and insufficient government funding.

According to a report from Cushman & Wakefield’s industrial services team, market predictions made by industry experts regarding the post economical recovery have come true. “A variety of industry watchers and media outlets contributed to the buzz, and we made our own predictions about which trends would likely bring wide-reaching, lasting changes and which were likely to be short-term blips,” said John Morris, Americas leader for C&W’s industrial services platform. These statements included predictions of e-commerce growth, same-day delivery, and the growing size and number of distribution centers.

According to Ariel Property Advisors’ quarterly report, New York City apartments have had their best quarter since 2012. By the third quarter this year, multifamily dollar volume has reached $3.258 billion and the market is predicted to remain strong. “With global instability pushing rates lower and sustained demand meeting constrained supply, we expect this market strength to carry into the remainder of the year,” said Shimon Shkury, president of Ariel Property Advisors.
