MacKenzie Hires Director of Internal Wholesaling and National Accounts

MacKenzie Realty Capital, a California-based real estate investment management firm, has hired Matthew Smith as regional vice president of internal sales and national accounts.

MacKenzie Realty Capital, a real estate investment management firm, has hired Matthew Smith as director of internal wholesaling and national accounts. In his new role, Smith will be responsible for supporting sales efforts for Mackenzie’s alternative investment programs offered through the independent broker-dealer and registered investment advisor distribution channels.

Smith has 23 years of experience in the financial services industry, including the sales of alternative investments such as non-traded real estate investment trusts, opportunity zone funds, 1031 exchanges, and various other private placements and Regulation A funds.

According to his LinkedIn page, prior to joining MacKenzie, Smith was a director at S2K, and before that, a managing director at Baker Tilly US. He has held internal wholesaler and other sales positions at various alternative investment sponsors including Triloma, Shopoff Realty Investments, Bluerock Real Estate, and Cornerstone.

Before starting his wholesaling career in 2007, Smith spent 10 years as a financial advisor with Prudential Securities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from California State Polytechnic University Pomona, as well as FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, and 65 securities licenses.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, MacKenzie Capital Management has specialized in discounted real estate securities and asset management since its formation in 1982.
