John Grady Joins DLA Piper as Partner
DLA Piper announced that John Grady has joined the firm as partner with the firm’s finance practice.
Grady has more than 30 years of investment management experience and counsels both registered and private investment funds, advisory firms, broker-dealers, and other financial institutions on a broad range of investment and regulatory matters.
He has led and managed buyouts, turnarounds and reorganizations involving funds and advisors, and has overseen securities offerings made by firms regulated by the various states, the Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. His experience extends to tax, ERISA and commodity trading issues facing such firms.
“John’s deep background in the formation, management and regulation of investment firms and funds will be a tremendous asset to our clients,” said John Cusack, global co-chair of DLA Piper’s finance practice. “He adds additional depth and is an ideal complement to our corporate and finance teams.”
Grady has worked in private practice and in-house general counsel roles, most recently as senior vice president and chief regulatory officer of Aratec Corporation (formerly known as RCS Capital Corporation), the holding company for Cetera Financial Group, one of the nation’s largest independent financial adviser network.

His leadership contributions to the industry include serving as president-elect and chair of the Alternative & Direct Investment Securities Association, as well as chairman of its legislative & regulatory committee. He received his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Colgate University and his juris doctorate from University of Pennsylvania Law School.
