The Strategic Financial Alliance Expands Senior Leadership Team

The Strategic Financial Alliance (SFA), a privately-owned independent broker-dealer and registered investment adviser, has expanded its senior leadership team in newly created functions with oversight for due diligence and financial products, technology, and recruiting.

Jean Merriman has joined SFA as the company’s vice president of due diligence and product, while Jamie Mackay has been appointed vice president of business development. Additionally, 20-year technology sector veteran Joseph K. (Jay) Copeland has been named vice president of technology for the company.

“We are delighted to welcome these three talented and respected executives to serve in key operating roles in our expanded senior management team,” said Clive Slovin, president and CEO of SFA. “We are confident these enhancements to our bench will deepen and expand the ability of our advisors to successfully grow their practices by meeting their clients’ needs during a time of intensifying regulatory and business complexity for our industry, all while maintaining the close-knit sense of community we and our advisors value so highly.”

Merriman, who will oversee the company’s product offerings in her role as vice president of due diligence and product, previously served as vice president of sponsor relations and due diligence with First Allied Securities. At First Allied she worked on all product lines including alternatives, mutual funds, insurance, and asset management. She has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.

As the new vice president of business development, Mackay will be responsible for building the company’s advisor referral networks and brand recognition to support of the company’s recruiting efforts. Prior to joining the firm, he worked in the wholesale channel, spending time with Transamerica Capital, Allianz Life, and Allmerica Financial over the course of his 22-year career.

Copeland, in his role as vice president of technology, will help refine the company’s technology strategy. Before joining SFA, he served as IT site manager for the Marine Electronics division of Johnson Outdoors Inc., a producer and distributor of outdoor recreational products.

The Strategic Financial Alliance is based in Atlanta and serves approximately 150 independent financial advisors across the country, collectively supporting nearly $4.5 billion in advisory and brokerage assets.
