The Investment Program Association has announced its full agenda for the upcoming IPASummit 2018 in Washington, D.C. on April 17-19th, including the addition of keynote speaker U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner Michael Piwowar.

Piwowar will discuss the SEC’s current regulatory agenda, what to expect from the Commission’s fiduciary rulemaking, and how that may be reconciled with the Department of Labor’s fiduciary rule.

Piwowar was first appointed as SEC Commissioner under the Obama administration and was sworn-in in August 2013. He was briefly designated acting chairman of the SEC by President Donald Trump last year prior to the confirmation of Jay Clayton.

Previously, Piwowar was the Republican chief economist for the U.S. Senate Banking under Senators Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Richard Shelby (R-AL), and served as the lead Republican economist on the four SEC-related titles of the Dodd-Frank Act and the JOBS Act.

As part of its agenda, the IPASummit 2018 will feature a due diligence symposium for broker-dealers and registered investment advisors, in addition to general session programming and meetings with legislators on Capitol Hill.

The IPA noted that industry and policy experts will examine the current political and regulatory environment impacting the non-traded alternative investment and discuss top issues facing investors and market participants.

Highlights from the agenda include:

• C-Suite panel discussions on growth opportunities in the industry and technology solutions for evolving product platforms.

• A pre-conference due diligence symposium with 13 presenting sponsors confirmed to date.

• A post-conference due diligence forum specifically focused on closed-end interval fund offerings and their unique due diligence considerations, with six interval fund presenting sponsors to date.

• Meetings on Capitol Hill to discuss the industry’s top issues directly with members of Congress. Last year, IPA members held 236 individual meetings with members of Congress from over 30 states to discuss legislative priorities.

Registration for IPASummit 2018 is open for broker-dealer, RIA, sponsor and associate members.

The IPA supports individual investor access to a variety of asset classes with low correlation to the traded markets and historically available only to institutional investors, including: non-traded real estate investment trusts, NAV and perpetual life REITs, business development companies, interval and closed-end funds, energy and equipment leasing programs and real estate private equity offerings. The mission of the IPA is to advocate for such investments through education and public awareness.
