Phoenix American Hospitality, a Dallas-based opportunistic hotel fund manager, has hired Jan Kuehnemann as vice president of acquisitions and asset management. In his new position, he will play a key role in the identification, evaluation and recommendation of merger and acquisition candidates.

Kuehnemann joins Phoenix American with more than 15 years of experience in hotel investment, strategic planning, asset management and operations. He spent nearly a decade as vice president of the capital transactions group at FelCor Lodging Trust, where he was responsible for all acquisitions and dispositions efforts of the company.

During his tenure with FelCor, which also included serving as director of capital transactions, he reportedly closed on more than $2 billion in hotel transactions and negotiated management agreements for both newly acquired and existing hotels.

“We are excited to bring Jan’s unparalleled expertise and insight to the Phoenix American team,” said Perch Nelson, president and CEO of Phoenix American Hospitality. “His strategic mind and proven track record of success will be a huge asset to our company.”

Kuehnemann is a graduate of Cornell University, where he received a bachelor’s degree from the School of Hotel Administration.

Phoenix American Hospitality invests in hotel properties that provide cash flow and value-added opportunities for the company. The company targets properties that have one or more of the following characteristics: strong cash flow history, located in urban markets with a business travel focus, strong brand affiliation, competitive barriers to entry, acquired at below replacement cost, and are competitively positioned in the submarket.
