The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives, a trade group representing the non-traded alternative investment industry, has hired Megan Gavin as director of strategic partnerships.

In her new role, she will “lead business development and membership engagement, in addition to supporting strategic planning and the execution of critical association initiatives,” the IPA said.

Gavin has 15 years of industry experience and joins the IPA from Ashford Securities, where she was the second hire at the firm as head of national accounts. Prior to her role at Ashford Securities, she held various account management and business development positions throughout the industry at firms such as Starwood Capital, Carey Financial and Hines.

“Megan is well-versed in our industry’s evolution and her extensive background positions her well to guide member engagement and business development,” said Tony Chereso, IPA president and chief executive officer. “Her understanding of product structures, distribution, and the various roles industry partners such as law firms, custodians and technology platforms play in the alternative investments marketplace will make Megan a critical asset when it comes to supporting the IPA community.”

Gavin holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 securities licenses. She completed her CFP certification program at Rice University and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas A&M University.

The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives is an advocacy and education group for the non-traded alternative investment industry. The organization seeks to raise awareness of investment products with low correlation to the equity markets, which include non-traded real estate investment trusts, business development companies, interval funds and direct participation programs.
