Highlands REIT Inc., a publicly registered non-traded real estate investment trust, has appointed Kimberly Karas to serve as the company’s treasurer. In this capacity, she will also serve as the company’s principal financial officer.
According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Paul Melkus stopped serving as the company’s chief financial officer, treasurer and principal financial officer, effective September 1, 2020.
Since July 8, 2019, Karas has served as Highland REIT’s senior vice president, controller and principal accounting officer. Prior to joining the firm, she was vice president of finance for Link Industrial Properties (formerly Gateway Industrial Properties), a Blackstone platform company. She previously worked at IRC Retail Centers from 2000 to 2018, most recently serving as vice president and controller and as a member of its management committee.
Karas holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Highlands REIT is a non-traded real estate investment trust that was spun-off from InvenTrust Properties Corp. (formerly Inland American Real Estate Trust) in April 2016. The company oversees a 20-property portfolio comprised of office, industrial, and retail assets, correctional facilities, and unimproved land, as of June 30, 2020.
