Franklin Square Promotes from Within

Michael F. Gerber, formerly Managing Director of Franklin Square Capital Partners (Franklin Square), has been appointed as Executive Vice President of the alternative investment sponsor.

Mr. Gerber joined Franklin Square in 2012 and is a member of the firm’s executive committee, where he reports to Michael Foreman, Chairman and CEO of Franklin Square. In his new role, Mr. Gerber will spend more time on firm management and development initiatives with Mr. Forman in addition to his duties managing firm administration and public affairs. He will also oversee Franklin Square’s Corporate Development Group, which is responsible for identifying acquisition and product development opportunities.

“Mike has been an integral part of our executive team for the past two years and carries a growing amount of firm-wide responsibility,” commented Mr. Forman. He continued, “This promotion reflects the work he’s been doing as well as the expanded role he will play as we continue to grow.”

Being responsible for hiring at Franklin Square, Mr. Gerber has doubled the firm’s size since he joined. The firm has a team composed of 225 people, the majority of whom are stationed in Franklin Square’s Philadelphia headquarters.

“We aspire to be great at all we do, and we are building a team that will help us realize that goal,” Mr. Forman added.

Prior to joining Franklin Square, Mr. Gerber was a member of the board of directors for one of Franklin Square’s non-traded BDCs, FS Investment Corporation II (FSIC II). He also practiced law at Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP.

“Having served as a trustee of a large state pension fund, I know alternative investments can help folks invest more effectively for themselves and their families,” explained Mr. Gerber. “At Franklin Square we believe alternative investments will play an increasingly important role for individual investors in years to come, and are proud to be leading that effort on behalf of our investors.”

Mr. Gerber is also committed to public service, having served eight years in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and six years as a trustee of Pennsylvania’s State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS). He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and on the board of the Children’s Scholarship Fund of Philadelphia.

In addition, Mr. Gerber is President of the Franklin Square Capital Partners Foundation, the firm’s charitable affiliate. “We’re committed to building a firm culture of giving and to being an impactful corporate citizen in Philadelphia and beyond,” Mr. Gerber stated.

Founded in 2007, Franklin Square launched its first fund, and the industry’s first non-traded BDC, in 2009. As of June 30, 2014, Franklin Square managed over $12 billion in assets.
