Former Oppenheimer Team Launches New Practice with LPL

LPL Financial LLC, the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer, has recruited Tower 68 Financial Advisors.

LPL Financial LLC, the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer, has added Tower 68 Financial Advisors, a former Oppenheimer team with approximately $550 million in advisory, brokerage and retirement plan assets.

The team launched its new independent practice through affiliation with LPL’s Strategic Wealth Services model for breakaway wirehouse advisors.

Ken South, Team 68’s founder and chief executive officer, spent his teen years as an ocean lifeguard at Tower 68 in Newport Beach, California and started his career in the financial services industry in 1985 before founding his solo practice in 2006. The team also includes chief operating officer Steve Arcos, as well as an operational support team.

Team 68 provide investment advice, education and wealth management services a client base that includes entrepreneurs, corporate executives, professionals, business owners, and retirees.

South, who teaches stocks and bonds to high school senior economics students, also implements financial education and coaching within the practice to help clients understand the big picture of their finances. In choosing a name for their new practice, South and the team recognized the parallels between lifeguards and financial professionals.

“As a former lifeguard, no one knew that beach as well as I did. It was my job to protect people and keep them from harm’s way,” said South. “That’s what we do as advisors—we take care of our clients and do what’s right for their financial futures.”

LPL Financial provides service to approximately $1.1 trillion in brokerage and advisory assets as of June 30, 2021. The company supports more than 19,000 financial advisors, 800 institution-based investment programs, and 450 independent RIA firms nationwide.
