HighTower, an independent fee-based advisory firm, has named industry veteran Bob Oros as its new chief executive officer.

Oros, who has more than 20 years of leadership experience, resigned from his role as HD Vest’s CEO in November 2018 after joining the firm in early 2017. He previously headed Fidelity’s RIA segment for more than five years.

In connection with Oro’s appointment, HighTower founder Elliot Weissbluth will transition to chairman of the board, while Gurinder Ahluwalia, the current chairman, will become lead director.

“I am delighted to welcome Bob, whom I have known for many years, and am looking forward to supporting him as he leads the company during this exciting period of growth in our industry,” said Weissbluth. “Bob’s strong leadership abilities and track record of growing companies make him an ideal fit to lead HighTower in its second decade.”

Prior to Fidelity, Oros served as national sales manager at Trust Company of America, executive vice president and head of custom clearing services at LPL Financial, and vice president and senior divisional manager at Charles Schwab.

Founded in 2007, HighTower is a wealth management firm with $60 billion in client assets and 92 advisor teams.
