Former RCS Capital Executive Named CFO and Executive Director of Fintech Startup

Active Allocator Inc., a new financial technology firm, has hired Brian Jones to serve as chief financial officer and director. Active Allocator owns and operates ActiveAllocator.com, a portal that integrates traditional, illiquid and alternative investments in performing strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction, and manager selection for financial advisers.

The start-up was co-founded by Sameer Jain, a former managing director and chief economist of AR Capital, and Helen Zhai.

“We are privileged and delighted to welcome Brian Jones to the Active Allocator team. He brings significant investment banking, finance, accounting, operating and asset management experience to our firm…,” said Jain and Zhai. “He has held executive officer positions with publicly listed companies, led banking and capital markets businesses, managed large broker-dealer organizations and is keenly attuned to affluent investor and financial adviser needs.”

Jones, who previously served as a director, chief financial officer and assistant secretary of RCS Capital Corp, has more than 25 years of experience operating and advising public and private real estate and financial services companies and executing a range of strategic and capital markets transactions, including approximately $10 billion of capital markets transactions, $10 billion of real estate acquisitions and dispositions and $40 billion of corporate mergers and acquisitions.

In February 2016, he founded Windmill Capital Management, an investment management firm focused on connecting high net worth investors with opportunities in real assets including real estate and alternative energy.

Jones has also served as head of the investment banking division of Realty Capital Securities LLC, a subsidiary of RCS Capital Corp, and as the chief operating officer and chief financial officer and treasurer of two publicly traded real estate investment trusts.

Jones has held a number of investment banking positions with Robert W. Baird & Co., Morgan Stanley & Co., RBC Capital Markets, UBS and PaineWebber Inc.

” Financial advisers and their clients are under-served by existing asset allocation tools, especially in the integration of alternative investments, which are valuable additions to diversified portfolios that remain grossly under allocated in retail client portfolios, said Jones. “This is in part because financial advisers lack sound means to quantify and demonstrate their accretive portfolio benefits. By providing the first comprehensive portfolio construction and manager selection tool, we can profitably serve affluent investors – those not interested in a one size fits all experience – as well as cater to a broad range of advisers through our flexible, parameterized, online, scalable technology platform.”.”

ActiveAllocator.com bills itself as the world’s first portal that integrates traditional, illiquid and alternative investments within portfolios.
